Surface for Reading.

This piece was conceived as a surface for reading, a table that balances materiality, proportion, and function in a way that feels both purposeful and elegant. Crafted with a solid ash top and aluminium legs, it demonstrates the harmonious meeting of natural and industrial materials, where the warmth of timber is grounded by the strength of metal.

The design is a careful choreography of surfaces within a structural framework, a study in balance and proportion. Its scale has been thoughtfully considered to suit modern living, designed specifically with a footprint that can comfortably accommodate both an iPad and an opened broadsheet newspaper. In doing so, the table provides a versatile surface that feels equally suited to digital and analogue experiences, reflecting the way we read and interact with information today.

The ash top was chosen not only for its durability but also for its fine grain and pale tone, which lends a calm, understated character. This is contrasted by the precision-engineered aluminium legs, whose clean lines and subtle metallic sheen bring a contemporary edge. The interplay of these two materials creates a piece that is robust yet refined, light in appearance but substantial in presence.

Every detail has been refined to achieve a seamless integration of surfaces, from the subtle transitions between materials to the way the table sits within its environment. Its minimal aesthetic makes it versatile enough to complement a wide range of interior styles, while its defined purpose as a reading table ensures it remains a highly functional piece of bespoke furniture.

The result is a design that is both practical and poetic: a quiet surface that encourages focus, reflection, and the simple pleasure of reading.
