Found in Waasmunster, East Flanders, Belgium, this incredible monastery is a beautiful and respectful piece of architecture. Designed by the Benedictine monk and architect Dom Hans van der Laan, completed in 1975. We visited this particular building to experience and appreciate ‘the plastic number’ a ratio that calls upon the relationship between measures that in turn belong to a group of measures. Created to find comfort and beauty in the proportion of spaces in which we dwell. Using the method allows our eyes and body perceive the space and relation of objects / structures and the spaces between them. The resulting architecture and space has a natural flow and demonstrates an appreciation of space which we can find comfort.
