Fit for contemporary living while playing homage to the past, Myddelton Square by Robert London Design showcases the interior refurbishment of a grade II-listed Georgian townhouse overlooking a tranquil square in the heart of London.

A palette of soft and warm hues, bespoke furniture pieces, and natural materials seamlessly link the architecture and interiors to create a harmonious flow and emotive space.
“Our brief for this young family of five was to create a contemporary interior that was sympathetic to the period property,” London Design founder and director Robert Thake says. “We worked alongside the client to re-imagine this historic townhouse while crafting a contemporary living space,” he adds.
Integral to a successful outcome was the careful curation of furniture, products, and art. The design team worked to ensure the kitchen and dining spaces, in particular, would transcend time. Natural light pours into these spaces throughout the day, with the soft tones of the paint scheme gently echoing the ever changing light and shadow play.

“Special moments occur through the composition of the furniture, art and product,” Thake continues. “And most importantly, through the welcoming of natural light by paying special attention to the dual aspect of spaces that create joyous shadow play throughout the day,” he says.
The meticulous composition and layout inform the use of each space, ensuring that only a limited number of pieces are selected for each area. “The relationship between the pieces is as important as the pieces themselves,” Thake says.

The Gervasoni Ghost Chairs by Paola Navone strike a welcome contrast with the bespoke metallic side tables in the living room. The Paul Kjaerholm PK22 chair adds a moment of modern sophistication alongside floor-to-ceiliing Georgian windows, highlighting the room’s architectural history.
“The heritage and architecture created a superb backdrop for us to design the interior aesthetic of an emotive space,” Thake says. “We achieved this by curating a mix of bespoke and classic design pieces that complement a timeless feeling of integrity,” he adds.
